Hello lovelies! Victoria (@birdandbobbin) here guest blogging for Athina in honor of Lisa month! When Athina reached out and asked if I wanted to get on board with this month of making and featuring her Lisa dress pattern, I was not only honored that she thought of me, but also thrilled to be a part of it! I have seen so many lovely versions of this dress on IG, and if you’ve been paying attention, I’m sure you have too!
I am usually a majorly slow sewist (where my snailstresses at?!), but I moved pretty quickly through this one- and not only because I had a deadline. 🙂 It was just a really fun dress to make, and it came together really quickly. This version was actually supposed to be my wearable muslin, but it ended up being the better of the two I made.

The one that I thought was going to be the actual dress that I would wear all the time, I used a rayon challis for, and it just didn’t work well for this dress for me. It didn’t give a nice silhouette the way this one does. The fabric that I used for this dress was just a yellow cotton of some sort that had been given to me and I had tons of it, so I thought it would be good for my muslin, and then I ended up loving it!

Athina’s instructions for this pattern are really well written and easy to follow. I didn’t have any problems at all. For this yellow dress, I sewed it with the facings, but for the other one I made, I fully lined the bodice, which I usually prefer to do so that I don’t end up with a line showing through where the facing ends, but I think this looks just fine.

So, this is a seriously perfect pattern that really didn’t need any adjustments, but just to change things up a little bit, I did shorten it quite a bit. And I lengthened the pockets because I like to have deep pockets (I do this with every pattern).

I am really pleased with how it turned out! And I actually love how perfectly sweet and summery it looks in this solid yellow. It makes me feel cheerful when I wear it!

It is also a perfect fit, which rarely happens for me, so that is a major win!

It is a perfect summer dress and I have a feeling there are going to be a lot more Lisa dresses in my life, and I think you should make yourself one too!

Happy sewing,
Victoria
