This April is a very special month for AKpatterns as we get to celebrate the first birthday of the Samantha dress. This pattern was released this time last year and I cannot believe it’s already been 12 months since then! Seven more patterns followed after that, but the Samantha will always have a special place in my heart. So I decided to dedicate the entire month to this pattern and I’m planning some things to celebrate 🙂
Secondly, I am currently working on a series of hacks, which will be posted as tutorials every week, same as the Sheona Hacks Series. I am hoping that this will show you how versatile this pattern can be and some quick modifications you can do to make it look very different.
In addition to all that, I have collaborated with some AMAZING seamstresses who will sew their own version of the Samantha and post them on their blogs/social media during the month. My aim with this project is to highlight the AKpatterns mission: that every woman that every woman is beautiful, no matter what her size, shape, age, color or ethnicity is. That she deserves to be able to create and wear stylish clothes and have access to sewing patterns that accommodate her size. Since I am only a very tiny company, I cannot afford to hire models to show off the garment on every size, but I want to help my customers envisage the pattern on themselves by showing it made by a range of different people and highlight the fact that fashion and body shape rules are meant to be broken.
So, stay tuned to see what I’ve prepared for you and if you want to hear more about this project, you can also watch my YouTube Video below.
