I sew a lot of clothes for my mom. Well, some of them are made specifically for her, while others are initially made for me, but because we wear the same size and she looks much better than me in them, they end up in her closet. My mom is definitely my biggest fan and I just love it when she wears something I made for her 🙂
My biggest satisfaction though comes from pushing her out of her comfort zone. She teaches at our local high school and if she could, she would happily go to work in a pair of jeans and sneakers everyday. I, on the other hand, want to see her dressed up in beautiful skirts and dresses all the time. So guess what kind of clothes I keep making for her, haha!
Her favorite pattern to this date is without a doubt the Samantha dress. Ever since I made the very first sample, she was over the moon about it and kept asking me to make her one. She now has more than 5 in her wardrobe and wears them very frequently at school.
If I had to pick just one of her Samantha dresses that I like the most, it has to be the plain royal blue version. As much as I love prints, sometimes all a woman needs is a classic, plain dress to steal the show! This particular dress gives me all the “Kate Middleton” vibes, don’t you agree?
This version is actually the very first Samantha dress I’ve ever made, before any tweaks were made to the pattern. You will notice that the front doesn’t wrap over as much as on the final pattern, but it’s still modest and very classy.
I made this dress using a ponte Roma from the greek store “Tsagrinos.gr”. As a double knit, this fabric is super snuggly and warm, making this Samantha the perfect garment to wear in the colder months.
My mom wore it on Sunday, when we went out for a coffee by the lake, so I naturally had to snap a few pictures of her. The light didn’t help very much, because it was a beautiful sunny day but the sun was too harsh for the photoshoot. However, I don’t care! I think she looks absolutely stunning in these photos and I’m so glad I convinced her to pose for the blog.
Since I knew I was going to write something about this dress here, I asked her why she loves this pattern so much. She says that it’s such a classic, feminine dress that makes her feel beautiful whenever she wears it. The fact that it’s jersey means that it is very comfortable to wear even at work and she feels very elegant and chic in it.
I am trying to organize a little photoshoot for the other handmade clothes my mom loves to wear, but maybe when the weather gets a bit warmer. Let us know if you’d enjoy seeing that and we’ll figure something out 🙂
