Hello everyone! I’ve been a little bit quiet on the blog lately, but with good reason, I promise you that! I’ve been working on a special project which has taken up all my time but now that most things have been set in motion, I can find some work/life balance again. So I thought you might be interested to see my recent mini fabric haul.
Truth is I’ve acquired quite a few fabrics lately, both for my pink collection makes and the samples I am sewing for SMYLY. As I’m typing this, I have a couch behind me that is piled under fabric gorgeousness, haha! But today I wanted to talk about 4 specific fabrics that I got from a new shop that opened just a few months ago, Lamazi fabrics.
This shop is run by the lovely Liana and her husband James and is based in the UK. Its name means beautiful in Georgian, Liana’s mother language and I have to admit that it truly reflects the amazing range of products they stock. I had the pleasure of exchanging a few e-mails with Liana and we got to know each other a bit more. She told me about their story and why they decided to open this fabric shop and I was so touched and so fascinated that I wanted to share it with all of you.
This inspired a little column for my YouTube channel, that I will call “Small Business Sunday”. Every month I am going to introduce a small business that I love, share their story and support them as much as I can. The first vlog is of course about Lamazi fabrics and it went live today. You can watch it if you like and see my fabric choices and the plans I have for them.
And now a little bit about their story, in Liana’s words:
James and I launched Lamazi Fabrics, the online sewing boutique at the start of March 2018. We are still very new but built a big group of fans and loyal customers very quickly thanks to everyone who follow us on social media, love our handpicked selection of fabrics and our personalised service. Always wanted to have our own small business offering something unique and different to the friendly community. We could not have picked better community than sewing as everyone is so lovely, engaged and happy. Interaction with our customers and their positive attitude really made a big difference in our lives.
I started sewing myself 2.5 years ago after acquiring sewing machine through the gift vouchers we received at our wedding. Was a complete novice and the social media was my main source of knowledge. I loved it since and have not stopped making clothes mainly using independent patterns as I found I was learning a lot from their easy and detailed instructions. The biggest joy of this new experience was fabric shopping! As I fell into the habit of looking for fabric shops everywhere we went together, James also fell in love with the experience and had been very helpful when picking fabrics for me, thanks to his love of design, beautiful prints and the nature. We even started running a sewing Group in Horsham to bring together sewing enthusiasts and create a lovely community.
But what made the launch of Lamazi Fabrics happen was something more personal and challenging which turned into an exciting opportunity for us both. James had been made redundant twice in a year causing a lot of stress to our lives, this coupled with my brief time off work due to stress related illness, sewing and fabric shopping was the biggest therapy and relief. We thought it was time to fulfil our dream and launch Lamazi Fabrics full of beautiful fabrics that would connect people all around the world to create exciting garments for themselves and others as it is such a positive community to be engaged with.
We particularly like working with other small businesses and supporting them. Most of our products are sourced from independent designers who have great focus on quality and style. Picking the name was the hardest part of all as there are so many lovely sewing related names already out there. So we decide to pick Lamazi which means beautiful in Georgian, my mother language and is the best reflection of our products and the lifestyle it contributes to.
James and Liana are very kindly offering a discount code to all of you as well. Using the coupon code ATHINALAMAZI you can get 10% OFF your order (minimum order value has to be 20 GBP). In addition, they offer free shipping on all orders within the UK and free shipping anywhere in the EU, USA, CANADA, NEW ZEALAND and AUSTRALIA on orders over 85 GBP. Isn’t that amazing?
So, without further ado, I urge you to go visit their beautiful fabric boutique and pick the fabrics for your next projects. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed by their amazing range and quality fabrics they stock and you will be supporting a small business run by a lovely couple.
