I know I say this a lot about the Sew Over It patterns, but lately it seems that I make every new pattern they release as soon as they release it! I might have a slight addiction, I admit it, but they are all so beautiful that I cannot resist! That was the case with the October PDF club pattern, the Chic Cape.
The first thing I should say is that I’ve never sewn outwear before. I was planning -and still am- to make a coat, but the cape seemed much easier and much more elegant! The launch of this pattern came right on time, I had just purchased some wool fabric from the local fair that happens once a year and I was dying to make something with it!
Since I started with the fabric, let me tell you a little story. It cost me 5 euros for 2,5 metres! Yes, I know! A lady at the fair had a stall where she was selling remnant fabrics and off cuts, probably coming from a clothing manufacturer that didn’t need them anymore. At first I thought they were flawed or dirty, but that wasn’t the case. I bought two pieces at first ti check them out and they seemed just fine! So I bought much more 😛 The blue wool you see in the photo was one of them and I also got a gorgeous green one that is destined to become a coat!
Anyway, back to the cape. The pattern itself was very easy and I’d say it’s suitable for adventurous beginners, too. I had no problems while I was making it, the instructions were very clear and I managed to make a gorgeous cape, if I may say so myself! It’s beautifully finished on the inside as well, as it is completely lined. I used a black acetate lining from my stash, but next time I’ll definitely go for a floral one!
The cape closes with snaps. The buttons you see are only decorative, not functional, so you don’t even have to make buttonholes! Super easy! I made some covered buttons using the same fabric, but you can use any buttons you like!
I’m really happy with my cape and I wore it lots in October! Now that the weather was gotten colder though, I’m not wearing it so much, I feel that I need a little extra warmth, especially around my arms! I think it’s time to make a coat soon, what do you think?
I hope you like my cape, leave me a comment if you have any questions or just to say hello!
Have a great week,
