October has definitely been the month of cardigans. I found myself very inspired by the #cosycardichallenge on Instagram and watching all these lovely makes made me wish that the day had more hours so I can sew all of them!
The first cardigan pattern I tried was the Blackwood cardigan by Helen’s closet (you can read all about it here). Although I was very tempted to make 100 more using that same pattern, I decided to try a few more and compare them so I could report back to you. My choice was the Carrie cardigan by Delia creates. I saw it for the first time on the Stitch Sisters’ You Tube channel and I couldn’t get it out of my head! I had the perfect fabric for it, too, a boucle knit fabric in the most gorgeous mustard color from Tsagrinos.gr
Whipped it up in no time! Thinking that it took me less than an hour to finish it and I’m quite chuffed with it! It’s an over sized cardigan with a loose fit and a unique cocoon shape! It’s very snugly and cozy!
The Carrie cardigan pattern includes two length variations and two sleeve options. I opted for the long sleeve version, which features a knit cuff that I really like! As for the construction, it’s pretty straightforward and can easily be made by a beginner seamstress. The instructions are really good too, the only part that confused me at first was the cuff, but once I figured out what the illustration was showing it was very very easy to make!
The fit of this cardigan is spot on for me. As I said it’s designed to be a relaxed, split front cardigan. It doesn’t have any closures at the front. I chose the size Medium and made no alterations to the pattern, it fit straight from the package 🙂
Overall, I’m very happy with my Carrie and I can’t wait to make more in different fabrics and see how it looks!
Have you made one? What do you think of this pattern? Let me know!
