I can’t believe it took me SO long to make a Moneta dress! I got the pattern back in winter, just in time for the #monetaparty on Instagram but I could’nt find the perfect fabric for it so it got pushed down on my sewing list. I was always going back to it when I made my monthly sewing plans, mainly because it’s also on my #makenine2017 list, so when the right fabric came to my life I had to give it a go.
I used a gorgeous jersey fabric from Girl Charlee UK which I LOVED from the second I touched it. It has the perfect weight, not very thin and sooo soft, it feels like wearing pyjamas! It washes great and hasn’t pilled so far, which is always a plus.
The dress was very very easy to make. I whipped it up in a couple of hours. The skirt is gathered using an elastic, which is a technique I hadn’t used before and was pretty nervous to try it. Turns out it’s not difficult at all! I used regular elastic instead of the clear elastic that the instructions suggest and it worked like a charm!
Regarding the fit, next time I will shorthen the bodice a little bit because the waistline hits me lower than my natural waist. Other than that it is great, no alterations needed (another advantage when sewing with knits)
To add some extra playfulness to the dress, I sewed a matching pom pom trim on the hem. Polka dots and pom poms are two of my favorite things, after all!
I totally recommend the Moneta dress (if you are a Seamwork magazine subscriber you can get it with your credits, if not, take a look at my blog post here) and I see myself making more of them for autumn. As for the fabric, I cannot say enough good things about it.
