Sewing for other people is something I really enjoy! Especially if I manage to make something that suits them and they are happy to wear it! But my favorite person to sew for is definitely my mom! She has an amazing figure and we wear almost the same size (I have a slightly bigger waist), which makes the entire process much easier for me, but I mostly enjoy it because she wears my makes with pride and looks gorgeous in them!
I love sitting down with her, browsing through patterns and imagining what I can make for her and we also go fabric shopping together, which is always fun! My mom has “broken” the tradition in our family and is the only one who doesn’t sew. Both my great grandma and my grandma are very talented seamstresses, but she has no clue about sewing and I love to tease her about it, haha!
Anyway, a few months ago she asked me to make her a few clothes and one of them was a wedding outfit. She chose a Burda style pattern, the 6806, and a floral viscose fabric which is very very soft and lovely! I was very nervous to sew this pattern because I’ve never used a Burda pattern before, but I thought I’d give it a chance! And I’m so happy I did!
The dress turned out beautiful and it really suits her. For blogging purposes I’m modeling it for you, but I’ll try to convince her to pose in it and share a few photos on Instagram as well. The construction was pretty straightforward, although I must admit I was a little confused at first with how to cut and attach the panel pieces. I had to look at the cutting guidelines to see exactly what I had to do, but it was actually very easy!
The dress is not overly fitted and has a lovely skirt part, perfect for swishing and twirling! It is a maxi length on both of us, although it looks shorter on the model, but I decided not to shorten it since that lenght looked very flattering on my mom.
I really enjoyed making it for her and she loves it, too!
