May is finally here! I’ve been waiting for this day for months, since I first started sewing my handmade clothes! Why? Because today is the start of Me Made May! What is that? Let me explain, although I’m sure most of you have already heard about it or taking part in it!
Well, Me Made May is the brainchild of Zoe Edwards from the blog So Zo What Do You Know. It started 8 years ago and it is “challenge designed to encourage people who sew/ knit/ crochet/ refashion/ upcycle garments for themselves to wear and love them more”. So what that basically means is that everyone who takes part in this challenge, sets a goal for themselves regarding their handmade wardrobe. That can be anything you want, whether you want to wear a handmade garment every day of March, or 3 times a week or once a week, whether you want to set a goal on what to make in May (for example sew 3 staple items that are missing from your wardrobe) etc.
You can document this challenge and share photos on your blog or on social media, but that is totally optional. This challenge is mainly personal and you only have to answer to yourself. No pressure at all!
I loved this idea since the first time I saw it and this year I really wanted to take part! I don’t have that many handmade garments yet, so my pledge for May 2017 is to wear handmade at least 3 times a week. If I can do it more often then I will! My main goal will be to push myself out of the rut I’ve fallen into, because I work from home and most days, if I don’t have errands to run or go out with friends, I will stick to my pyjamas or sweatshirts for the entire day. I hate that and I really wanna embrace the habit of getting dressed every day. That doesn’t mean wearing fancy clothes of course, but a comfy dress, a breezy skirt or tights would be perfect for work!
So, I will try to report back with my progress on this challenge and I’m looking forward to see all your beautiful outfits! You can follow me on Instagram to see mine!
For the first day I decided to wear my new Cleo dress which I made late last night to honor the beginning of Me Made May. I paired it with my stripey Coco top. Both patterns are from Tilly and the Buttons.
Happy sewing friends,
Athina
