I almost can’t believe I’m hitting the publish button to this post! This blog has been in the makes for the past couple of months, maybe a bit more and keeping it a secret from everyone else was almost killing me, haha! Being impatient as a person it was really really hard to do all the planning and writing in stages, usually late at night after I was done with work. I told myself this project will be stricly a hobby, so I didn’t wanna put any extra pressure to my already busy schedule. So, it might took a bit longer but it’s totally worth it!
Enough with the uneccessary details, though! Let me introduce myself properly!
My name is Athina, I am 25 years old and currently living in Greece, in a small town on the North of the country (so sadly no sea and pretty cold weather) with my fioncee and our 2 dogs. I have a degree in childrens’ education but I’ve never worked as a teacher -I’m sure you know about the economical crisis in Greece, this means no hiring in public schools for the past years. Anyway, ironically I decided to start my own business (I say ironically because this might be the worst job anyone can do these days here if you consider the unbearrable taxes), which is designing/sewing/selling handmade clothes and accessories for kids. My shop, Craftaholic, was born in 2013 and I really really love it!
As you can understand I’ve been sewing for many years now, but I got into dressmaking for… adults about 3 or 4 months ago. I know it may sound strange but before then I had never sewn anything for myself, only decorations and of course kids clothes.
Staring to make my own clothes was a revelation! I can’t believe I wasn’t doing it all those years! I’ve been hooked and spending every spare minute I have browsing sewing patterns, watching vlogs, searching for inspiration and of course sewing! I can proudly say that I’ve made several garments so far! Of course I’m not pleased with every one of them, there were many disasterous makes and a lot more disappointments, but the ones that actually worked give me so much desire to keep going and learning and practising and getting better!
So, this blog will be all about that! My dressmaking adventures!
I already have a YouTube channel were I’ve shared a few things, BUT it’s in greek. I’m really struggling with that issue I must say. I really wanted to vlog in english but I don’t think my english is that good for the camera. Sure, I can write well enough, but I’m certainly not fluent when it comes to speaking and I certainly don’t have the right accent, haha! I thought of adding english subtitles, but that might be weird. What do you think? Should I push myself and try vlogging in a foreign language? That would certainly mean getting out of my confort zone!
Ok, I will be ending this post now because I just realized how long it has gotten. Pardon me, I tend to speak and write a lot! I’m looking forward to sharing all of my sewing with you!
Till the next time,
